To Erica, every task is an opportunity for mindfulness, meditation, and depth of experience. She feels the more deeply a moment is experienced, the more rich the returns, for herself as well as others. Her friends may say she moves slowly, like her pet turtle, Teddy. To her, this is a compliment. Yoga teaches us to become aware of our every movement, just as a turtle appears to be. This awareness requires presence of mind, body and spirit, and therefore leads to mental clarity and stillness. While outwardly, such awareness, or mindfulness, may be perceived as moving slowly, in time, students of yoga will prove that it is always quality over quantity, depth over distance and the journey over the destination that teaches us in the end.
Erica has been practicing yoga since 2003, when she attended a class on a whim with a friend. It couldn’t have come at a better time in her life. Yoga breathed into her, a sense of self. She learned the value of compassion for oneself, of patience as one moves toward success, and of listening inwardly to ones own heart, mind, spirit, and physical body. With the tools yoga gave her to move forward in life with an open mind and heart, she has been seeking and approaching balance throughout her journey. As she continues to shape her life and explore the details around her, she is enthusiastic to share yoga with others, as it has been central to her successes thus far.
Erica was trained as an instructor in Maharashtra, India in 2010, at Yoga Vidya Gurukul outside the small rural town of Trimbak. She has taught various yoga workshops and private classes in the North Country since 2010, and looks forward to meeting and working with the community in Canton. She welcomes all levels of students, and hopes that those new to yoga will feel comfortable in her class, while learning to listen to and work with their body.
