Mary Bartel, E-RYT-500, C-IAYT
[email protected], 518-354-2425
Yoga provided the healing pathway for Mary since 1998 when chronic neck and back concerns became debilitating. She began teaching Kripalu yoga in 2000, and in 2005, she opened Inner Quest Yoga & Wellness Center, in Saranac Lake, NY and devoted herself full-time to the study and sharing of yoga and energy cultivation practices as her profession. While her yoga training has been diverse, it was Mukunda Stiles and Richard C. Miller, PhD, who became her most influential teachers.
Mukunda certified Mary as a Structural Yoga™ Therapist and Instructor in 2008. She found that a life of balance, steadiness, and ease of being, the aim of yoga, often requires adapting yoga techniques to meet an individual’s needs.
In 2011 Richard Miller certified Mary as an iRest Yoga Nidra instructor. iRest, the practice of self-inquiry in meditation and deep relaxation, profoundly awakens your deeper knowing of truth and the obstacles.
Mary is currently studying and incorporating Qigong movements and Taoist philosophy into her practice and teaching. She enjoys the emphasis on the laws of nature, symbolism of postures and gestures, and the effect on our energy lines (meridians) and organ systems – providing more tools for self-care healthcare.
In addition to weekly group classes, Mary offers one-on-one Structural Yoga Therapy, occasional retreats, iRest Yoga Nidra workshops, and Yoga Alliance certified continuing education programs for yoga instructors.
In 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic, Mary's home studio, Inner Quest Yoga of Saranac Lake, entered a remote learning collaboration with the Yoga Loft. Each studio now includes several of its Zoom classes in the other’s weekly schedule.
